What does sustainability have to do with academics? Quite a lot! Academic departments and activities are working with the sustainability office in a number of new ways across campus. We’re excited to continue our initiatives and we’re always looking to work with new departments.
Academic Activity Initiatives
- Buying books: When you are buying books in the beginning of the semester, buy used or electronic books or rent! When you buy materials that have already been used, you prevent new materials from being made, saving trees and the environment.
- Selling back books: Have books to sell back at the end of the semester that the bookstore can’t buy back? Donate the books in the book bin at the buyback station. These books are donated to organizations that support global literacy.
Academic Department Initiatives
- Fine Arts: We are working with Fine Arts to develop a contest for the coming spring semester! We are going to ask students within the department to submit designs for a storm drain stencil that will be painted all over campus.
- Engineering: Seniors working on their senior design project are now given the option to pursue sustainable projects. We hope that more students will select these options in the coming years
