Don’t print your travel confirmation if you don’t have to. You can almost always check in online before you get to the airport and can even have your boarding pass delivered electronically to your smart phone. Buses and trains also sometimes allow you to use an electronic confirmation instead of printing a hard copy.
Pack light! The less weight your bag is, the more fuel efficient the car, bus, train or plane you are traveling on will be.
Bring a reusable water bottle (if you can). If you know the drinking water is safe where you are going, avoid constantly buying water bottles while exploring and you can often fill up your water bottle with tap water.
Unplug before you leave AND when you arrive
Ask the hotel not to change your sheets and towels if your stay is a week or less
Eat locally – do research beforehand and check out local markets and restaurants.
Use public transportation where possible, or even better walk where you can
Don’t pick up and take home natural resources (ie: shells, plants)
